One of the most sparkling comedies in opera gets an extra layer of depth in this 21st-birthday revival of Jonathan Miller’s legendary ENO production. The barber is the quick-witted Figaro, hired to assist Count Almaviva in winning the hand of the lovely Rosina. Her guardian, old Doctor Bartolo, has other plans. He wants to marry her himself and the stage is set for some hilarious and frequently farcical twists and turns.
Rossini veteran Andrew Shore reprises his hilariously inventive performance as Bartolo and Anna Grevelius returns to ENO for her first Rosina.
