Royal Opera House Tours

The Royal Opera House is the home of three world class performing companies - The Royal Ballet, The Royal Operaand The Orchestra of the Royal OperaHouse. It is a focal point for national and international artistic excellence, where theevolving traditions of opera and ballet are taken to the highest levels. 

From its iconic building in London's Covent Garden,renowned stars and rising talent inspire diverse audiences around the world. The theatre covers an area of 2.5 acres, with a whole acre being taken up with the stage and backstage areas. 

The Backstage Tours give an exciting overview of this stunning building including the huge backstage area, the historic Front of House and the elegant Paul Hamlyn Hall. You'll gain an insight into the colourful history of the theatre, learn about the state of the art technology installed during the major redevelopment between 1997 and 1999 and take a look at aspects of current opera and ballet productions. 

As the Royal Opera House is a fully working theatre, each tour is a unique experience and varies according to what is available on the day. Whilst access to the auditorium cannot be guaranteed, tours may include opportunities to see The Royal Ballet in class, a production workshop and the magnificent backstage technology used to move around scenery which can weigh up to 30 tonnes.

In addition to the tour which takes an hour and a half, you may wish to linger over a morning coffee, have a light lunch or afternoon tea.  Both the Amphitheatre Bar and Amphitheatre Restaurant have access to the Terrace overlooking Covent Garden Piazza with views of great landmarks such as the London Eye and Nelson's Column beyond. And finally, you may also wish to visit their shop.
